In this week’s episode of The Soaring Child Podcast, we had a delightful and insightful conversation with Andrea Daigle. Andrea has been on her journey with treating her ADHD-diagnosed son for about four years and she shares the key tools and approaches she took in order to implement healthier eating and social habits for her son.

The main topic we discussed in this episode is how much diet can affect behavior. We all know that establishing a dietary system that consists of whole and organic foods is the best approach but it can be costly. So, Andrea shares her secret to keeping the price of “eating healthy” at a low rate. The key is to try to find a system that works for your child and your family.

Andrea puts a strong emphasis on implementing the right system for one’s child. Every child is different and one specific system is not going to get results for every single child. Parents have to try things out and fixate on what works for their child and what does not. But the important thing is to try. Get started making the right changes for your child and your family.

Memorable Quotes

“But in the process of me exploring these different avenues… you know… working with doctors… medication and that sort of thing, he started having outbursts, tantrums, and just… a lot of emotional dysregulation.”

“It got to the point where the school was calling me every day so I did it… I put him on medication and it was awful. He had the most violent rages on that medication and it just exacerbated the problem.”

“The number one thing that was the most eye-opening was that my son, at 7 years old, said, ” Mommy, I feel happy, I feel good. And that was when we knew we were making a difference.”

“ A very good place to begin is taking a look at those snacks. It’s a very good place to start for everybody. Look at those snacks and what’s coming in and out of those packages.”

“The thing you want to do with birthday parties is be prepared. We always want to be prepared and plan ahead. The very first thing to do is call and find out what’s being served at the birthday party.”

“We started this journey when my son was 7. He is almost 11 years old now, and he chooses to eat this way. If we go to a party, he’s the one that takes charge of what we bring, what that sweet treat is, because he doesn’t want to go backwards, he doesn’t want to feel what he used to feel.”

“The last thing I want to say is if you’re feeling overwhelmed, or you’re feeling like you have nothing left to try, or your children are really struggling, you haven’t tried implementing diet and nutrition changes, now is the time. Don’t sit on it. Don’t wait. Don’t even take a second guess about it, now is this time, because it is going to be the best decision you will ever make for you and your family.”
