Have you ever thought, why me?
I used to ask myself that all the time when my son’s ADHD symptoms were at their worst.
Why does my life have to be SO hard?
Why does my son have to struggle so much?
Why us?
So when my son was diagnosed with ADHD and then given a prescription to treat it, at first I was relieved.
I was relieved because I thought we were FINALLY going to find happiness.
Peace.
That life we had always wanted.
For a while, things seemed to be going well. He was calm and able to focus better at school. He even started playing nicer with his younger brother at home. It was peaceful and nice.
But then, the bottom dropped out.
My son began experiencing terrible side effects to the medication his doctor has prescribed.
He became quieter and more anxious. He didn’t want to eat during the day and had trouble sleeping at night.
The afternoons became very difficult for us as he would have huge meltdowns around 3pm every day.
It was as if the medication wore off and all of this pent up energy was being released like a volcanic eruption.
My son’s doctor suggested a second medication to help with side effects from the first. Then he needed a third. When the doctor suggested a fourth, I knew there had to be a better solution.
It was at this point that I started to question the “experts.” Was medicine really the best way to go?
That was when I started learning about the gut-brain connection and the amazing power of food and targeted supplementation.
I began to dig deeper into all of the research that I could get my hands on. I believed deep down that there was something better for him, that these medications couldn’t be the only solution.
I felt that most of these medications seem to take a cookie-cutter approach to treating people with ADHD. With each step along my biomedical journey, the desire to take my son off of medications grew more and more.
I started learning about other options and other means to support my son with ADHD. These options had a natural approach to supporting ADHD, and they were much more appealing than these medications that seemed to be causing more problems for my son than they solved.
Finally, I came to the conclusion that medications were not the best way to treat his ADHD. So, I began a holistic, all-natural lifestyle change to support his ADHD.
Today, my son is thriving like never before and he is completely off medications.
I had the honor of sharing my story at a recent book launch event.
I’d LOVE it if you took five minutes to watch my story.
