Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day – Reminder for Parents of Children with ADHD

by | Nov 19, 2021 | Mindset

Natural ADHD Symptom Reduction Takes Time and Effort

Whenever I talk to families about making changes in their diet, I can almost feel their stress levels rising. I can almost hear them thinking things like:

I can’t do this!

My child is too picky!

What will we even eat?

I can’t cut out gluten. We love bread and have a pantry full of it!

I don’t even like to cook. How can I figure out how to cook gluten-free?

This is going to cost a fortune!

Making changes to your family’s diet can be overwhelming. I know because that’s exactly how I felt when I first started making changes.

I was overwhelmed and stressed. I wanted to change everything about every meal we ate on Day 1. I believed that the sooner I changed what we were eating, the sooner my family would finally have some peace.

But by pressuring myself to change everything so quickly, I actually created more stress in my home.

What I learned the hard way (and what I want to help you learn the easy way) is that you don’t have to make every change straight away.

One small step is all you need to do today.

There’s a saying I often tell my clients: “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” And just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, we don’t need to make every single change straight away either.

Changing the foods we eat is a lifestyle change, not something we can do in one day.

It’s okay to take it one step at a time. In fact, it’s better than okay. It’s what I recommend to everyone I work with. Are you ready to take that one step today? Remember that even one step in the right direction keeps you moving forward.
