I didn’t know what to do. It was one thing to have my son on 1 medication. But 4?
And this particular medicine that was being suggested wasn’t even for my son’s ADHD. It was to counteract the side effects from the other 3 medicines he was already on.
I’m not against medicine, but this 4th medication just didn’t feel right.
My gut was telling me to say no to my son’s doctor, but I didn’t really feel like I could do that either. I wasn’t typically one to question the advice of a doctor. After all, he was the expert, right?
But then again, I couldn’t ignore the nagging feeling in the back of my mind, telling me things like…
This isn’t what my son really needs.
I shouldn’t have him on this many medications.
If medicine were working, would we really need another one?
There has to be another way!
These thoughts nagged at me so long that I finally got up the courage to ask Oliver’s doctor about food intolerance testing as an alternative. His response: “Don’t bother. None of that works!”
Many doctors (like my son’s doctor) believe that the ONLY way to reduce ADHD symptoms is through medication.
Countless families feel stuck, just like I did. They feel like they HAVE to use medicine…like there are no other options if they ever want to have peace in their home.
It’s like they have to choose: live in chaos or give their child a pill.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
? Major Truth Bomb ?
I’m here to tell you today that you DO have other options. You don’t HAVE to choose medication if your gut is telling you it’s not the right choice for your child.
My son is living proof that medicine is not the only option. He is thriving, and he’s doing so without the help of a pill.
The hardest lesson I learned in the journey to heal my son’s gut is that doctors can be wrong.
Medication is NOT your only option.
Because the truth is, your child’s doctor might be smart, but he’s not an expert on your child. That title belongs to you alone.
