Kid friendly smoothies

Kid friendly smoothies – you need them in your life.

Smoothies are simply the best. Enough said!!!

No seriously, there are so many reasons that you need to incorporate smoothies into your daily life for you and your kiddos.

You can pack them full of whole foods such as fruit, vegies and nuts. They are a great vehicle to provide your kids with the nutritional elements they need to Thrive.

I always sneak some extra ingredients into my kid friendly smoothies and they are none the wiser.  Here are my fave hidden ingredients:

Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen

This provide an extra source of high quality protein. Protein is the second most plentiful substance in the body (after water) and is needed in the growth and repair of every cell in the body. So why not add a tablespoon of this goodness to your smoothie. Best thing about this brand is that it is completely flavorless so it won’t affect the taste of your smoothie. California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I always add one teaspoon to one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to our smoothies. Yes, it totally sounds strange, doesn’t it!!?!?! Olive oil is made of awesome monosaturated fats which have been scientifically proven to benefit brain function and promote healthy blood flow. It also is proven to enhance cardiovascular health. Brazil Nuts

Every smoothie I make, I place one brazil nut in the blender no matter what recipe I am choosing. They are one of the healthiest nuts available on the market, despite their high-fat content. The improve heart health, stimulate the digestive system, promote cell growth & repair, improve hormone function and boost the immune system (and these are only a few of the benefits!) Now following are my family’s top 3 favorite kid friendly smoothie recipes:

Blueberries Chia Smoothie

1 cup blueberries
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 banana
1 cup of your favorite dairy free milk

Chia seeds are extremely high in fiber leaving you feeling full for hours (great for kids before school). They also contain tryptophan, an essential amino acid found primarily in sea veggies and some leafy greens.

Blueberries are extremely high in antioxidants and contain vitamin K, vitamin C, and manganese.

Blend until smooth. Chia seeds gel with the liquids so you need to drink the smoothie immediately.

Strawberry and Mango Smoothie (with hidden avocado!)

½ avocado

½ cup strawberry

½ cup mango

1 cup of coconut water

Avocados are light tasting and refreshing but they are also a very nutrient-dense fruit with great monounsaturated fats. They make any smoothie nice and creaming in texture.

Blend all ingredients until smooth and creamy. This is the top kid friendly smoothie recipe from my family

Peach Green Monster Smoothie (1)

1 cup almond milk, unsweetened

2 cup spinach

1 medium – banana

1 1/2 cup sliced frozen peaches

1 cup of plain So delicious coconut yoghurt (optional)

Spinach is high in niacin and zinc, protein, fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese (2). In other words, it is awesome!

Place all ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth.
